Career and Technical Education in Pennsylvania

The Education Resource Center is located at Penn State Greater Allegheny, near Pittsburgh, PA.  The primary goals of the Center are to provide technical support services to the field of career and technical education.  The Center works with the staff of the Bureau of Career and Technical Education, Pennsylvania Department of Education to achieve the goals of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act. 

The Center strives to achieve the following objectives:

  • Assist with the management of the Technical Assistance Program (TAP), a statewide initiative to increase the quality and impact of career and technical education programs as well as academic and occupational achievement and success of all CTE students. 
  • Manage the statewide occupational testing of all secondary completers in approved career and technical education programs.
  • Facilitate activities related to the development and implementation of statewide Programs of Study.
  • Coordinate statewide conferences, meetings and webinars to disseminate information to instructors, administrators, counselors, etc.
  • Develop informational materials to promote the Bureau’s initiatives and activities.
  • Co-sponsor several professional development activities focused on meeting the needs of special populations students in career and technical education programs.
