PRE-APPRENTICESHIP
Supporting access to high-quality pre-apprenticeship opportunities for Pennsylvania students
The Education Resource Center, in collaboration with the Bureau of Career and Technical Education (BCTE), is partnering with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s Apprenticeship and Training Office to streamline and support the development of pre-apprenticeship programs in schools offering career and technical education (CTE) across the Commonwealth.
Recognizing that students can access pre-apprenticeship opportunities through multiple pathways, this project includes several key components aimed at:
- Raising awareness among schools about how to become pre-apprenticeship sponsors or collaborate effectively with existing sponsors
- Strengthening connections between schools, registered apprenticeship sponsors, workforce intermediaries, and businesses
- Simplifying the application process for schools seeking to establish pre-apprenticeship programs
Current project activities include:
- Developing case studies that document the experiences of schools establishing pre-apprenticeship programs
- Creating a crosswalk between national registered apprenticeship work processes and CTE programs of study
- Hosting webinars to foster collaboration and transparency among stakeholders in the apprenticeship ecosystem
- Producing guidance to help schools navigate the pre-apprenticeship application process more efficiently
This is a multi-year initiative, and additional information about each component will be shared as the project progresses. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Briana Mihok at bnm5587@psu.edu or by phone at 412-675-9066.
